“We need to build off of these things and just keep grinding away and hopefully get better and better,” Mooney said.
Any hopes of a comeback, however, just never grew within the Spiders’ reach.
[Ullstrom] was outstanding,” UR Head Coach Aaron Roussell said in a postgame press conference. “I know she came into the game and talked about, I think she had missed her last 11 threes, and she hits 11 threes today in one game.”
“We had plenty of opportunities offensively to make plays and we didn’t do it, we had plenty of opportunities on defense to make plays and we didn’t do it,” Huesman said. “And when that happens in a playoff game, you usually lose the football game.”
“Definitely want to be the floor general, but as I said before the season started, I’m really big on just doing whatever it takes to win,” Hunt said.
“It’s one game,” Walz said in the postgame interview with the Spider Sports Network. “We gotta play tomorrow as well. We can’t let this translate, can’t let this feeling translate into a bad start tomorrow.”
“We’re really grinding,” Mooney said. “I mean that in working hard, but also we’re just, we feel stuck a lot and just have to continue to practice and fight our way through it, and fortunate to have another game tomorrow.”
The Spiders punctuated this win streak with a 73-61 victory away against Appalachian State University on Nov. 24, moving their record to 6-0 on the young season.
It’s a simple mentality, but it has more than worked for the University of Richmond football team, as the Spiders will now play in their third consecutive Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
“It’s a great feeling, no question about that,” UR Head Coach Russ Huesman said.
