Gym gets 4 Internet-ready Expresso bikes, LCD screens

For many students, working out at the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness is a task, but with the addition of 15 high-technology machines, completing a grueling workout could be enjoyable. The Weinstein Center staff recently added 15 fitness machines, including four Expresso bikes.

Track team kicks off outdoor season

The University of Richmond's men's and women's track and field teams will have the opportunity to confront four in-state opponents in front of a home crowd during the fifth-annual Fred Hardy Invitational on March 27 and 28. The Spiders' rivals - the College of William & Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Tech and Columbia University - are four of the 20 to 25 men's and women's teams expected to attend the invitational in downtown Richmond. The invitational is usually the Spiders' only home meet of the season, but because of construction at Richmond's First Market Stadium, the meet will be held in Sports Backers Stadium at 3001 N.

RCSGA debate focuses on improving campus dialogue

Two students vying to become the next Richmond College Student Government Association president expressed a strong initiative to reform the lack of student participation in major campus issues, events and decisions during a debate that began at 8 p.m.

Men's basketball to close season against Xavier

University of Richmond students and the Richmond community have recently been criticized for not attending home basketball games, but a win against nationally ranked Xavier University on March 7 might sway students to put their work aside during spring break and support the team during the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament in Atlantic City, N.J., on March 11. Of the 14 teams in the Atlantic 10 conference, the top 12 teams advance to the tournament in Atlantic City -- a neutral site.

Men's golf hopes early success will continue in A-10 play

The University of Richmond men's golf team started its 2008-09 season strongly, with two top-five finishes during its first four non-conference tournaments, and continued its success to start the spring season. The team, whose year-long schedule includes nine tournaments, also placed fifth out of 12 during the Liberty Invitational on Oct.

Baseball opens at home against Niagara Saturday

The University of Richmond's baseball team is looking forward to showing off its new scoreboard during its 33 home games this season. "Any time an opponent comes to Pitt they get our best effort," baseball coach Mark McQueen said. The Spiders open their season on Pitt Field against Niagara University with a double-header at 12 p.m.
