"We Are One Richmond" movement seeks to unite Spiders

Two University of Richmond students produced the viral video "We Are One Richmond" last week, promoting the basketball team as a unifying force for Richmond's student body, and students' attention to basketball has so far been more prominent than last year only two games into the season. The collaborating students Josh Grice and Nick Olindo, with help from Jeremy Day and the voice of Bob Black, published their video three days before the sold-out Richmond-Delaware game.

Rocco discusses football players' pre-game hotel stays

The University of Richmond athletic department annually budgets an undisclosed amount so the football team can sleep in hotels the night before home games, a practice common among almost every team in Division I football. It is not the athletic department's policy to give exact budget figures, but athletic department officials said this undisclosed amount came from private donations specified by the donor. Danny Rocco, Richmond's head coach, said the tradition was necessary for game-day performance.

Richmond law student receives exclusive military scholarship

Greg Collins, a University of Richmond Law School student and active-duty Marine, received the prestigious Tillman Military Scholarship, making him the first recipient in the school's history. The Tillman Foundation awarded Collins the award on merits of leadership, personal ambition and a "drive to make a positive impact on others through service," as declared in the foundation's mission statement. The foundation started when Pat Tillman, an NFL quarterback, chose a place with the Army Rangers over a successful and lucrative professional contract.

Security at NASCAR event relaxed, students say

University of Richmond students found the police presence at NASCAR last Saturday not as threatening as police had promised, partly because so many students canceled after hearing Henrico police's planned sequestration of Richmond students.
