Some food for thought: D-Hall

Are you looking for a five-star dining experience? In search of a place that offers made-to-order eggs, gourmet waffles, all of the typical fixings, every kind of beverage you can think of and an omelet bar with a chef awaiting your order? Many establishments in the city of Richmond offer such services, but the one I have in mind is surprisingly not in Carytown or Shockoe Bottom.

Letter: Job vs. Career

I graduated in May, still live in Richmond and couldn't help but notice the article in last week's paper about the employment "success" of my class.

A new perception of rejection

What many of us do: We wait all week long, with the hope of seeing that person we are interested in out on the weekend to make our "big move." And when we finally see that person, we rehearse in our mind a thousand different ways to approach him or her, and wonder what line we should use. He/she is with a group of friends and the last thing you want to do is embarrass yourself in front of everyone, so you tell yourself, "I'll just wait until he/she is alone." But throughout the whole night he/she never seems to be alone, so you never make a move. Rejection is an act that many men and women have feared for ages.

A Modest Proposal, 2009

"It is a melancholy object to those who walk through this great town or travel in the country, when they see the streets, the roads, and cabin doors, crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags and importuning every passenger for an alms.

In Peru, students witness a country and people torn asunder

CUSCO, Peru -- As President Alan Garcia's approval rating continues to plummet, various bloody protests have amplified chaos and killings throughout Peru, notably in the northern Amazon region. Violent uprisings in the north of the country have disrupted transportation, education and tourism, generating international attention as Garcia pursues investment and development projects at the expense of the general public.

Time to consider reprioritizing

"It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society." - J. Krishnamurti It's true what that "gamer-guy-who-has-more-video-games-than-friends" quote says: Sometimes the end gets you thinking about the beginning. If I consider the beginnings of this semester, every class, every return to Richmond after breaks at home, has functioned as a sort of nail.

What lies ahead

When most people think about what waits for them down the road, they are filled with fear and anxiety.
