Two missed kicks sink Spiders, end winning streak

Villanova University ended the University of Richmond football team's 17-game winning streak with a 21-20 victory in front of 11,667 at UR Stadium. Richmond senior place kicker Andrew Howard had a chance to win it for the Spiders, but he missed a 35-yard field goal wide left with 5 seconds to play.

The University of Richmond football team has yet to lose a game this season, but if the Spiders want to secure at least a share of the Colonial Athletic Association title this week, they will need to beat No.

Three former Spiders to play pro football in Richmond

The Richmond Revolution, Richmond's new Indoor Football League team, signed three former University of Richmond football players to its 27-player roster for the 2010 season. Alumni Ryan Mace, Richmond College '05, Stephen Howell, RC '07, and Sherman Logan, RC '08, will make their Revolution debuts at the city's Arthur Ashe Jr.

No. 1 Richmond drubs Towson 42-14, continues streak

TOWSON, Md - The University of Richmond football team has won more games in a row than any other Division I team in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Spiders beat Towson University 42-14 Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas Stadium for their 17th-consecutive victory. "It feels really good to come out with a victory on the road against a very scrappy Towson team," Richmond head coach Mike London said. Photo Gallery The Tigers hung with the Spiders during the first half, and actually had a lead early during the third quarter, but Richmond answered with 22 unanswered points in 2 minutes and 33 seconds to put the game away. "In the first half, we missed two interceptions," London said.

No. 1 Richmond runs past UMass for 16th-straight win

The University of Richmond football team took advantage of seven turnovers by the University of Massachusetts on the way to its seventh win of the season, beating the Minutemen 34-12 on a rainy Saturday afternoon at UR Stadium. "It's hard to win football games and these guys played their hearts out," Richmond head coach Mike London said.

Richmond extends winning streak, downs Maine 38-21

The University of Richmond football team used 28 second-half points to defeat the University of Maine 38-21 on Saturday, extending its school-record winning streak to 15 games. The Spiders trailed 14-10 at halftime, but started the second half by scoring 28 unanswered points, highlighted by senior safety Derek Hatcher's 90-yard punt return touchdown. During the first drive of the second half, Richmond senior quarterback Eric Ward led the team down the field before throwing a three-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Donte Boston.

No. 1 Richmond forces fumble in last minute, beats JMU 21-17

HARRISONBURG, Va. ? Six yards separated the University of Richmond football team from its first loss in 364 days. But with 58 seconds remaining during the fourth quarter of Saturday's game, Richmond senior defensive tackle Martin Parker forced James Madison University freshman quarterback Justin Thorpe to fumble as he tried to run for the end zone.

Grayson joins Tebow on Allstate Good Works Team

University of Richmond junior wide receiver Kevin Grayson and University of Florida Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow now have two things in common. Both players helped lead their teams to national championships last season, and they have both been honored for the positive impact they have in their communities. Allstate Insurance and the American Football Coaches Association announced on Sept.

Family Weekend planning affected by holidays

Students will not be able to bring their parents and siblings to a University of Richmond home football game this coming Family Weekend because of conflicts between the university's and the football conference's schedules. Officials at the university's Office of Parent Programs schedule Family Weekend two to three years in advance, wrote Lisa Van Riper, assistant vice president for communications, in an e-mail.
