A: I have been playing violin since I was five (almost 16 years). What first sparked my interest was hearing my friend's brother play; I remember saying to my mom, "I want do that!" Q: How often do you perform and what are the magnitudes of your performances? A: I perform for various occasions all the time -- at school I have orchestra and chamber concerts, repertoire class performances, recitals and occasional random events.

Have you ever wondered what men are thinking? A meeting hosted by the resident assistants of Freeman, Robins and Jeter halls gave students a chance to ask. Students were invited to ask a panel of eight males and one female all their burning questions in the Whitehurst Living Room at 9 p.m.

Shockoe Slip retailers offer discount incentive program

Local retailers in Shockoe Slip are trying to ward off the negative effects of a slow economy by offering various incentives to customers during the next couple of months. During February and March -- months that typically produce the lowest sales figures of the year -- shoppers who spend $100 will receive two free River District Canal Cruises and two $5 lunch vouchers at local restaurants.

Award-winning Irish poet reads Thursday at Weinstein

Some consider poetry a performance art, words that are meant to be heard, not just read. Through the University of Richmond English Department's writers' series, students will get to hear internationally acclaimed Irish poet Vona Groarke read her poetry at 8 p.m.

Ruckus, the online music service available to college students nationwide, has officially shut down. Ruckus was made available to students at the University of Richmond during the spring of 2007 and offered more than two million files for download.

Members of the the University of Richmond's DEX business fraternity and the Western Henrico Rotary Club sponsored a campus tour and trip to a men's basketball game on Sunday for children in the community identified by the Tuckahoe YMCA as underprivileged. The YMCA matches the children with organizations, such as the Rotarians, who spend time with the children.

Speaker uses couples to show students the art of kissing

Michael Christian has literally tried every kiss in the book -- his own book, "The Art of Kissing," an international bestseller that has been translated into 19 foreign languages and printed more than 250,000 times worldwide. "I wrote this book to try to improve my sex life, but it didn't work," Christian said to an audience of almost 300 Thursday night in the Pier.

Weinstein Center gives students 'Natural High'

The Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness has increased its focus on its Outdoor Adventure Program this year, providing opportunities for students to participate in healthy recreational activities off campus. Outdoor Adventure includes Natural High adventure trips, the Team Odyssey High Ropes course and outdoor equipment rental.

Alumna moves up at Times-Dispatch and publishes book

At 26, alumna Jessica Artur recently celebrated her second year as educational services manager for The Richmond Times-Dispatch. During that time, she has created a monthly publication for children and written a book about its characters.
