Don't be a spoiled Spider: Resist your "AOE"

I was standing in my friend's UFA kitchen last weekend, talking with him about whatever series of unusual events was taking place in each of our respective lives. My friend was mid-sentence when his face completely disappeared from view; it was replaced by a refrigerator door, which was immediately replaced with a small backwards hat atop a seemingly uncontainable amount of hair. Being that the friend in question was the apartment resident, it took me a few seconds to register exactly what had just happened. Upon realization, I tried not to let my absolute appall get in the way of my speech, and I directly addressed the baseball hat wearer.

Misremembering: the downfall of Roger Clemens

I'd like to remember Roger Clemens' split-fingered fastballs, not the Feds fingerprinting him. I'd like to recall how he always seemed to make great pitches when he was behind in the count, not the one count of obstruction of Congress, two counts of perjury and three counts of making false statements that he now faces. "I never took HGH or Steroids.

Spiders' seventh-inning rally falls short, GW wins 11-8

Richmond baseball could not handle Atlantic 10 rival George Washington's eighth-inning lift from Tom Zebroski's RBI single that broke the 6-6 tie as the Spiders lost 11-8 on Friday afternoon at Pitt Field. The Colonials (18-16, 8-2) staved off a Spider ninth-inning rally to win the first of a three-game series. The Spiders (16-16, 3-7) started off strong in the second inning when senior Cameron Brown hit a home run to centerfield and recorded 2 RBIs.

Eighth-inning rally gives Spiders win over VCU

The University of Richmond baseball team rallied in the eighth inning to defeat Virginia Commonwealth University 8-6 on Tuesday night at The Diamond in the first game of the Farm Bureau Black & Blue Classic. It was Richmond's first win against VCU since an 8-6 victory on May 14, 2004, a game that was also played at The Diamond. Junior Billy Barber drove in the first run for the Spiders in the first inning with an RBI double that curled just inside the right-field line and scored sophomore Derek Boliek from second base.

Offense quiet as Richmond loses game, series to Xavier

It took Xavier University only one inning to outscore the University of Richmond baseball team in a fast-moving 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Pitt Field. Baseball begins conference play at Pitt Field Friday

Consistency will be the key to the baseball team's success as it starts its Atlantic 10 Conference play this Saturday against Fordham University. In what coach Mark McQueen called one of its most challenging early seasons, the baseball team has played better than its record reflects, he said. "We beat the teams we should have and played competitively against the higher-ranked teams," McQueen said. The biggest challenges facing the team as it heads into A-10 conference play are consistency and finding the right pitching lineup.

Baseball starts season with two weekends in Fla.

Seven returning starters will lead the University of Richmond baseball team when it begins its season tomorrow in Jacksonville, Fla. The Spiders practiced indoors during much of the preseason because of the snow, but senior pitcher Matt Zielinski said that shouldn't stop them from playing well at the start of the season. "We don't plan on using the weather as an excuse," Zielinski said.
