Last year's "Fourth-Quarter Frenzy," created to encourage University of Richmond students to stay until the end of home football games, has been moved to the first quarter, with one unique addition.
Richmond football used an explosive third quarter, in which the Spiders scored four touchdowns, to cruise past VMI in Lexington, Va., on Saturday. It was Richmond's second consecutive victory, giving the team momentum as they prepare to enter CAA conference play next week when they head to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia State University.
LEXINGTON, Va. -- With four touchdowns in the third quarter, the Richmond Spiders turned a close game with a longtime rival into an opportunity to get the backups playing time.

Storylines:
Richmond football recorded its first victory in its last 10 tries on Saturday, defeating Gardner-Webb University, 41-8. The win also serves as Danny Rocco's first as Spiders head coach.
A new turf, costing approximately $500,000, has been installed in the Robins Stadium to promote safety.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.-- The 2012 season opener wasn't the start Richmond's new head football coach Danny Rocco wanted, not by a long shot, but it wasn't his worst nightmare either.

The 2012 Richmond Spiders football team is faced with yet another change.
Richmond football player Jimmy Speros pleaded guilty to misdemeanor hit-and-run and reckless driving charges. The hit-and-run charge was reduced from its original felony case. He was sentenced to a 12-month suspended prison term, and a $1000 fine.
