You might know them for their song “Jungle”, but you’ve definitely heard “Renegades” and “Unsteady”. Now, you can hear the pop band X Ambassadors live when they headline the Last Day of Classes (or LDOC) concert on Friday, April 25.
This year, SpiderBoard revealed the pop-rock band as the show’s headliner in an event at The Current, with Papa John’s Pizza and Krispy Kreme donuts. The space was decorated with streamers and balloons, including a Just Dance competition, photo walls, and SpiderBoard merch.
The TikTok famous pop duo Crash Adams will open the concert at 7 p.m. at Boatwright Beach, the hill in front of the Boatwright library.
The LDOC concert is a Richmond tradition hosted by the SpiderBoard. In the past two years, artists like Plain White T’s and Jay Sean have performed. But this year, SpiderBoard had an even bigger budget – and even bigger plans – for the concert, said Sydney Boehman, President of SpiderBoard’s senior executive board.
“We got about a $30,000 budget increase,” Boehman said, “We figured out what our headliner was going to be, priced out different options, and went with one that we felt was going to be the most versatile.”
The result? The multi-platinum group X Ambassadors with 5.3 billion streams, according to Music Metrics Vault. The band also has a whopping 11.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, millions more than the last two headline performers.
Boehman also shared the process for choosing Crash Adams.
“We knew we wanted to do an opener this year, so we factored that out and divided our $90,000 budget” Boehman said. “I think people will be excited once they figure out who they are and do a little bit of googling.”
The Toronto-based pop duo has been gaining popularity online, particularly on TikTok, for energetic songs like “Give Me a Kiss”, “Destination”, and “Caroline”. Boehman described them as up-and-coming artists with significant potential.
Junior exchange students Conall McKeown and Zalán Takács both said they were looking forward to the concert.
“I know the X Ambassadors, and I’m really excited,” Takács said.
The LDOC concert artists were revealed with a compilation of UR students saying one lyric each from the X Ambassadors’s hit song “Renegade”. At the reveal, SpiderBoard members threw light-up beach balls with the names of the opening and headlining artists.

“I’m hoping people will be very, very excited, because I’m excited and I think that this is better than anything we’ve had in the last four to five years,” Boehman said.
