Happy Sunday Spiders! Between the snowstorm, flooding, and tornado, last week was busy, and it's not over yet. Another snowfall is anticipated to hit Richmond on Wednesday, Feb. 19, so if you plan on playing in the snow, stay warm and check out the sledding locations list below. If you want to keep out of the cold, however, there are some events indoors to enjoy. 

Wednesday winter weather 

Richmond might have another winter storm this week. There is a high chance of snow on Wednesday, Feb. 19, so make sure to prepare accordingly. If you have the urge to go enjoy the snow, check out this list of some of Richmond’s best sledding locations. 

“Microbes to monks: Lessons in biological communication” science seminar 

The Department of Biology is hosting a seminar by Dr. Dan Pierce titled “Microbes to Monks: Lessons in Biological Communication” on Monday, Feb. 17, at noon. Enjoy cookies and an informative seminar in Gottwald auditorium, room A001. You can learn more about this event and future seminars here

Jazz night at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts 

Did you know the VMFA hosts weekly jazz concerts on Wednesday nights? This week will feature WSB3, an organ-style trio with guitar, keyboard, and drums on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public in the Cochrane Atrium of the museum. Sushi and onigiri making classes at the Demonstration Kitchen 

The Demonstration Kitchen is hosting various cooking classes this week, including a demonstration from an Osaka Sushi guest chef on Wednesday, Feb. 19, and a class on making Japanese rice balls called onigiri, Friday, Feb. 21. These classes are free for UR students, so make sure to check the Demonstration Kitchen website.

Murmurs in Time by Third Coast Percussion 

Come celebrate 20 years of Third Coast Percussion with the world premiere of Murmurs in Time, the final work by tabla master Zakir Hussain. This special tribute concert is Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Modlin Center and is free for UR students. You can learn more information about the performance here.
