A small electrical fire started near Campus Drive after a power line was hit by debris.
The University of Richmond sent out a critical alert to community members around 12 p.m. on Wednesday that there was a “small active fire near the campus drive entrance.”
UR Chief of Police Dave McCoy said the fire department arrived on the scene to assess the area and URPD set up cones to block eastbound traffic on Campus Drive and advised vehicles to to use River Road or Boatwright Drive to access campus.
URPD is waiting for Dominion Power to respond but are unsure how long it will be. As of 2 p.m., approximately 25,500 people in Henrico have reported power outages, according to Find Power. McCoy noted that the university is waiting on a “busy Dominion response list.”
“There are minor traffic changes in place until Dominion Power can respond,” McCoy wrote in an email to The Collegian.
URPD said the electrical fire was not related to the power outages at UR on Monday.
