Choeur Du Roi celebrated its 30th anniversary at its annual King of Hearts concert on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The concert started off with a hip-hop set led by Block Crew. The dancers wore green jerseys with the number 24 and cargo pants. Their set included "After Hours" by Kehlani, the Grammy-winning Song “They Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar. The mix of different music styles added a twist to the concert.

After the first song, junior Juliet Zucker took a moment to honor the legacy and dedication that have shaped this group over the years. Each song was arranged and performed by the members of Choeur Du Roi. Some of the songs performed included "Not Over You" by Gavin DeGraw, and"Wildflower" by Billie Eilish.
After Block Crew, the a cappella performance was kicked off by sophomore and social media manager Jessica Khan, and senior music director Clayvon Grimes, who introduced all of the singers through a clip. The video mimicked the filming style of a reality show, with each member venting to the camera, similar to scenes from “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”
This led directly into the performance of "Not Over You" by Gavin DeGraw, sung by junior Jessi Cooper, which was an upbeat opener to the concert.
Following this, the crowd cheered and called out for soloist sophomore DaCaahri Obey who took the stage singing a version of "Misery" by Maroon 5 with members of the crowd clapping along and cheering.
“It made me feel great. I already knew no matter what happened I was gonna have fun on the stage, so I was very excited,” Obey said.
Following this, a special senior recognition was held for Grimes and Maddie Hitching. They were honored for their achievements and dedication to the Choeur Du Roi group, and each of the seniors were presented with flowers.

The group honored seniors Clayvon Grimes, right, and Maddie Hitching in a senior recognition ceremony.
Grimes said that he loved the speeches that were given to him and how he appreciated it.
“I just love chords so much,” Grimes said. “I appreciated the love and everything, Juliet, the president, told me she was not doing any speeches because other people were doing them, so she surprised me so that was really sweet.”

The group closed the performance with “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish, sung by Juliet Zucker and Khan.
Among the crowd Grimes’ mom, Aretha Wiggs, was present and said she has attended all four years of the King Of Hearts showcase.
“The first one was hilarious,” she said. “I really enjoyed each and every one of them, and they do always outdo themselves. I am very proud of each and one of them, it was a great performance”.
As the final notes of “Wildflower” filled the room, the 30th anniversary King Of Hearts concert came to an end for the evening. It was an evening of celebration Choeur Du Roi also honored its achievements by announcing the drop of its new album called King of Hearts that will be released Friday, Feb. 28.
