The University of Richmond’s Registrar’s Office announced Tuesday seniors must register for classes again on Tuesday, Nov. 8, after the registration website crashed Tuesday morning while seniors attempted to register the first time.
“All registration will be rolled back and restarted,” the Registrar’s Office wrote in an email on Tuesday. “All registration and schedule changes made on Tuesday, Nov. 1 will be canceled.”
Earlier Tuesday morning, the Registrar’s Office announced technical difficulties and closed class registration for seniors approximately seven minutes after registration was officially open to students.
Seniors who were neither athletes nor Richmond, Bonner, Presidential or Oliver Hill scholars were scheduled to register for classes at 7 a.m Tuesday.
Senior Rosa Lovo went to bed at 5 a.m Tuesday and set an alarm for 6:30 a.m the same day for registration.
“It’s ironic that I’ve made it through seven semesters getting the classes I want and now everything works to break down,” Lovo said.
Lovo said she had two screens up during registration: one was Bannerweb, the website used to register for all UR classes, and the other was a spreadsheet with all her classes’ course reference numbers. When she submitted to register her classes on Bannerweb, the website was buffering, she said.
Lovo said a page showed up saying “503 service unavailable.”
For the next fifteen minutes, she could not proceed forward from the student service page.
At 7:30 a.m, Lovo said she was able to enter two CRN’s and was able to register for two classes.
Her roommate, senior Shiela Martinez successfully registered for all her classes after registering through her phone.
Lovo said her other roommate, Sophie Peltzer, got all of her classes during registration. Peltzer registered at 7 a.m. using the new registration method that was introduced in the spring 2022 semester.

The new registration method allows students to register with a planning option. Students may select classes beforehand, visually see how it fits into their schedule and save the plan before registration begins. Once registration begins, students have the option to register with the plan or manually enter their CRN’s for their classes.
In addition to the new registration dates for seniors who are neither scholars nor athletes, the Registrar’s Office provided new registration dates for juniors, sophomores, and first year students.
