Oct. 13: 2-0 victory over La Salle
The University of Richmond Spiders picked up the win over La Salle University on Thursday afternoon at home. Goals from first-year midfielder Emma Coleman and sophomore forward Emma Shields in the 78th and 79th minute made it a 2-0 victory, and both goals were assisted by graduate student midfielder Molly Morgan. Junior goalkeeper Taylor Montague’s four saves kept La Salle from scoring. The Spiders improved to 3-8-3 and 2-3-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Oct. 16: 1-0 loss to St. Bonaventure
The Spiders fell to St. Bonaventure University 1-0 after 90 minutes of play. After 22 minutes following the kickoff, the Spiders committed a penalty and St. Bonaventure capitalized and scored. The Spiders had a staggering 26 shots, 14 of which were on target. The Spiders also had four corner kicks, but could not get the ball through the net. The Spiders are now 3-9-3 and 2-4-2 in A-10 play.
Cross country
Oct. 14: Second overall at ECAC Championships and 15th at the ICA4 Championships
The Spiders women’s cross country team finished second overall at the 39th ECAC Championships in Van Cortlandt Park in New York City. Four runners came in the top 50, which helped the Spiders finish with 177 points. The Spiders came behind Stony Brook University and just ahead of University of New Hampshire. In the 113th ICA4 Championships, the men took 15th place and finished with a total of 403 points.
Field hockey
Oct.14: 1-0 loss to Lock Haven
The Spiders field hockey team lost to Lock Haven University in a 1-0 game. The team recorded 11 shots, but could not pull through. Junior forward Madi Hyatt, sophomore midfielder Ella Hayes and first-year midfielder and forward Madelyn Curtis all recorded a shot on target. First-year goalie Kristen Rake made her first career start, recording six saves. The Spiders are now 5-9 and 2-3 in league play.
Oct. 16: 3-2 victory over Bucknell

The Spiders beat Bucknell University 3-2 snapping a six-game losing streak. Goals from first-year midfielder Lainey Nichols and senior midfielder Lindsey Frank helped outscore Bucknell for the win. Hayes assisted first-year midfielder Lainey Nichols in the first quarter. The Spiders improved to 6-9 on the season.
Men’s golf
Oct. 15: Finished 10th through two rounds at the NC State’s Wolfpack Intercollegiate
At the North Carolina State University’s Wolfpack Intercollegiate, the Spiders finished in 10th place after two rounds. Graduate student Michael Childress tied for 36th at 148 (+4) after shooting a pair of 74s. First-year Drew Carlin tied for 40th place at 149 (+5). Senior Ben Cooper tied for 49th at +7 and senior Lou Baker tied for 66th at +10. The Spiders combined for 122 pairs and 17 birdies. The Spiders also finished with 593 points on Saturday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
Football
Oct.15: 20-10 victory over Villanova at home
The Richmond Spiders took down the Villanova University Wildcats at home. With a 14-10 lead at halftime, the Spiders shut out the Wildcats in the second half. With 331 total yards on offense and the Spider’s dominant defense this weekend, the team improved to 4-2 (2-1) on the season. Graduate student quarterback Reece Udinski led the way with 146 passing yards, 16 completions, one touchdown and an interception. On defense, redshirt senior linebacker Philip O’Connor led the team with 10 tackles.
