Women’s Tennis

The University of Richmond women’s tennis team collected its fourth straight victory after winning 5-2 against St. Bonaventure University at the Spiders’ home court on April 15. The home win also marked the team’s regular season final home game.

In the singles competition, UR went 5-for-6 in its matches. Fifth-year Emily Dunbar was first in the line up and started UR off strong with a 6-4 and 7-5 win. Sophomore Carly Cohen followed her sister-in-red with a 6-0 and 6-4 win. Senior Helene Heiberg was third and collected her 6-1 and 6-2 wins.

Junior Marta Buendia secured back-to-back 6-1 wins and sophomore Sara Salemyr fell to the Wolves with a close 6-7 loss and a 2-6 loss to round the match up.

Junior Emily Garvin played two matches and a tie-breaker, keeping fans on their feet. Garvin lost her first match 4-6, but came back swinging to win 6-3 and 10-8 to secure UR's fifth singles win of the day.

In the doubles competition, the Spiders went undefeated with a perfect 3-3 sweep to kick the Wolves back to their den. Both pairs — Dunbar and Salemyr and Cohen and Buendia — won their doubles matches 6-3. Heiberg and Garvin rounded out the day with a close-shave 7-6 win to wrap up the day.

Men’s Tennis

The Spiders’ men’s tennis team closed the seal on its regular season with a 5-2 win against St. Bonaventure also on April 15.

Sophomore Daniel Kliebhan was the first Spider to play in the singles competition, but fell after losing 2-6 and 4-6 against the Wolves. The loss, however, did not halt the Spiders’ momentum. Senior John Walsh followed behind his brother-in-red with 6-3 and 6-4 wins. Senior Alex Wernink faced trouble with two matches and a tie-breaker, but clutched the win with 6-1 and 6-4 wins after a 3-6 loss.

Senior Campbell Erwin was fourth in the lineup and collected his 6-1 and 6-3 wins for UR’s third win.

Sophomore Sebastian Miano went undefeated with perfect 6-0 wins over the Wolves. Alaister Burke was the final Spider to play in the singles competition, where he fell against St. Bonaventure 6-7 and 4-6.

In the doubles competition, UR went 2-for-3 after Walsh and Erwin wiped the court 6-0 with the Wolves pelts. Kliebhan and Burke followed behind with a near-perfect 6-1 win. Wernink and Miano fell to St. Bonaventure in the last doubles match, losing 6-4.
