Baseball

March 23: UR vs Towson

The game was postponed due to the inclement weather and there is no makeup date that has been finalized.

March 25: Loss 4-7 to Villanova

The Spiders hit Pitt Field, but were defeated by Villanova University and dropped their record to 12-6. Junior Jeremy Neff pitched for a little over six innings and struck out a season-high nine batters. Fifth-year Dom Toso hit a three-run home run that drove in graduate student Christian Beal and junior Alden Mathes. Toso’s brought his hitting streak to 18 games. He was instrumental in gaining the Spiders the lead in the first and fourth innings, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game alive for UR.

March 26: Loss 12-14 to Villanova

UR suffered back-to-back losses against Villanova, adding to their now 12-7 record. Toso extended his hit streak to 19 games and had six at-bats, two runs and two hits. The Wildcats took the lead in the fourth inning with a five-run rally and brought their lead to 7-4. In the sixth inning, Beal hit an infield single. Mathes followed up with a home run. Toso, sophomore Jared Sprague-Lott and graduate student Shane Gipson made their way onto base. First-year Johnny Hipsman took the plate, and with bases loaded, nailed a grand slam down right field. While the Spiders’ bats came alive in the end, it wasn’t enough to beat the two-run deficit.

March 27: Loss 4-15 to Villanova

The Spiders wrapped up their three-game weekend with three straight losses against Villanova. UR saw no luck batting until the third inning with Sprague-Lott’s hit, driving in Toso for a 1-1 score. In the fourth inning, the Wildcats tallied up five unanswered runs and three more runs in the sixth inning. UR was able to get a point on the board in the sixth inning after Gipson hit a single that drove in Sprague-Lott. UR’s luck began to turn with a two-run inning in the seventh inning, but the Wildcats pounced on the Spiders in the ninth inning with six runs to take the 4-15 win.

Men’s Lacrosse

March 26: Win 20-5 against Hampton

The men’s lacrosse team traveled to Hampton, Virginia, where they defeated Hampton University by four times their points and added to their now 5-3 record. Junior attacker Dalton Young led the Spiders with a game-high four goals. Senior attacker Ryan Dunn, graduate midfielder Luke Frankeny and senior attacker Ryan Lanchbury each added two goals and were among 12 total scoring Spiders.
