Women’s Tennis
Oct. 25: Women’s tennis completes day one at ITA Regionals.
The University of Richmond Women’s tennis team completed day one of the ITA Atlantic Regionals competition, which was held all weekend at Liberty Tennis Complex in Lynchburg, Va.
Senior Helene Heiberg and junior Marta Buendia won their match and advanced to round of 16. Graduate student Emily Dunbar won her singles match and advanced to round of 32.
In the doubles, Heiberg/Buendia defeated Briee Jolliff and Alexandra Hincu of Longwood University by a score of 6-1 in the round of 32. They advanced to the round of 16.
Dunbar and Sophomore Carly Cohen won their doubles round of 64 against Nina Hederich and Zoe Barton of Longwood University by 6-1. Dunbar/Cohen suffered a tough defeat to Virginia Tech’s Erika Cheng and Chhinda Som. Sophomore Sara Salemyr and junior Andrea Campodonico suffered a tough defeat to Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Micaela Ode Mitre of Liberty University in their doubles round of 64.
In the singles, Buendia defeated Hederich in the round of 128 before being defeated by Ine Stange of William and Mary University in the round of 64. Dunbar, the only Spider to win her singles round of 64, defeated Virginia Tech’s Annie Clark.
Women’s Field Hockey
Oct. 29: UR suffers defeat against VCU, 3-1.
The Spiders field hockey team suffered a heavy loss against VCU on Friday night. UR sophomore Kaitlyn Csensits scored in the final moments to avoid a shutout loss. The Spider’s are now 4-3 in the league and 5-12 in the season.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first half. In the third quarter, VCU scored two goals and one more in the fourth.
UR junior goalkeeper Erika Latta made three saves in the game.

Oct. 31: UR defeated by Georgetown in their final game of the regular season.
The Spiders finished their regular season with a tough 3-1 defeat to Georgetown University Hoyas on Sunday at Cooper Field.
In the third minute of the first quarter, the Hoyas scored a goal with which the Spiders tied in the 19th minute by junior Lindsey Frank. Sophomore Madi Hyatt got the assist on the goal. This was Frank’s sixth goal of the season.
In the second quarter, the Hoyas scored another goal and their third in the 52nd minute mark.
UR secured its spot in the 2021 Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament from November 5-6 at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa. at Ellen Ryan Field. The Spiders will open their season playing the top-seeded host, Saint Joseph’s.
Cross Country
Oct. 30: Men’s place 5th and Women’s place 4th in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
UR senior Peter Borger took first place with an 8km time of 24:35.3 at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course. This was the first individual championship for the Spiders since 2010 and third overall from 2004. The Spiders finished fifth overall as a team in the league with La Salle taking the A-10 title.
Stuart Terrill, a UR sophomore, finished his run in 24:47.6 for third place, earning him his second Atlantic 10 All-Conference honor.

Noah Campbell, senior, placed 33rd with a time of 25:45.2.
Jimmy Quinn, senior, placed 47th with a time of 25:58.6.
Patrick Sutphin, senior, placed 54th with a time of 26:02.7.
Riley Fletcher, junior, placed 65th with a time of 26:16.4.
Tanner Crochet, junior, placed 81st with a time of 26:31.3.
Jake Schindel, junior, placed 84th with a time of 26:38.4.
Sean Doolan, redshirt junior, placed 95th with a time of 26:55.1.
Football
Oct. 30: Win 35-21 versus New Hampshire University.
UR opened up the game with a 10-0 lead in the second quarter with graduate quarterback Joe Mancuso scoring a 3-yard touchdown and junior Jake Larson adding a field goal.
New Hampshire responded with a touchdown with UR leading 10-7. Mancuso and graduate wide receiver Leroy Henley tag-teamed for a 30-yard scoring catch making it 17-7.
The Wildcats scored the following two touchdowns taking a 21-17 lead in the fourth quarter. The Spiders would respond with 18 consecutive points to bring the final score to 35-21. The Spiders will head home where it will host Towson for homecoming weekend at 2 p.m. at Robins Stadium.
Women’s Soccer
Oct. 31: UR closes their 2021 season with a loss to Dayton, 3-1.
Sunday marked UR’s first appearance in the A-10 postseason since 2014, closing their season with a 7-10-1 record. Dayton was the first to score in the sixth minute of the game, but freshman Emma Coleman responded by scoring her third goal of the season in the 25th minute. In the 61st minute, Dayton retook the lead and would score their third goal in the 87th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Montague had a total of eight saves, four in each half.
