The University of Richmond men’s basketball team announced early Friday that the game originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday has been postponed, citing concerns about COVID-19.
The Spiders were set to face off against the No. 22 Saint Louis University on ESPN2 before COVID-19 concerns from the Saint Louis medical staff led to the postponement.
“SLU was prepared to play the game as scheduled and is not in a position to comment on the concerns raised by its medical staff,” the Saint Louis athletic department stated in a release midday Friday.
This morning, however, UR Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hardt told ESPN Richmond that both teams were cleared and ready to play, making the reason for tonight’s last-minute postponement more unclear.
The Spiders won their most recent game, against Saint Joseph’s University, 79-56. The Spiders will now wait to see if and when the match against Saint Louis is rescheduled.
For now, the Spider’s next match is a home game against George Mason, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 2.
