Lifestyle Calendar: September virtual events to attend

The move toward virtual event hosting has allowed for organizations and companies to create new ways of socializing with others. Below is a list of free virtual events to help kick off our fall semester as we practice social distancing on or off-campus. Ranging from meal prepping tutorials to a virtual concert, the events listed below are being hosted by local and national organizations to keep everyone safe and connected. 

Weekly Events

Society X: Therapeutic Art Workshop 

Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., two Brooklyn-based artists are hosting a virtual art therapy session as a way to “[balance] your mind with art,” according to the Eventbrite description.   

Meal Planning 101 with Stop & Shop 

Join a dietician from Stop & Shop for a meal prepping tutorial every Wednesday at 11 a.m. They’ll discuss everything “from pantry staples to have in your kitchen to creative recipes to inspire you to eat well at home,” according to the Eventbrite description

Virtual Happy Hour hosted by Bar Chef Cocktail Kits 

Chefs Mike Love and Nick Motola from Bar Chef Cocktail Kits are hosting a virtual happy hour the first three Wednesdays of September with recipes and mixing tips for using vodka, negroni and brandy. Participants must be 21 years or older to sign up for the event. 

Virtual Symposium with Kamoinge Photographers

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is resuming its previously scheduled symposium schedule with the Kamoinge Workshop. There are seven workshops available every Thursday until Oct. 15, with varying times based on the session. Baking with Our Buds hosted by @micheletaugustin_us

Two French bakers, Michel and Augustin, began their baking venture 15 years ago and have since grown their brand. Hosting weekly Instagram Live Open Houses on Thursdays at 8 p.m., they share recipes and secrets of classic French patisserie and cookie baking. Unplugged & Live: Virtual Concert Series hosted by Dear Soul Music Co. 

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.17, watch acoustic artists Curt Keyz and Nathan Storey perform in a virtual concert from the comfort of your dorm room, apartment or home. Read more at the registration link to see the full concert schedule through December. 

One-Time Events

RVA First Fridays

At 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, RVA First Fridays is hosting a virtual event with artists Hamilton Glass and Matt Lively to discuss their current project "Mending Walls." Register for the event and read more details on University of Richmond’s full activity calendar.  

Five-Day Mindfulness Challenge

Join a mindfulness consultant for 15 minutes a day starting on Monday, Sept. 7 to focus on personal wellbeing and set daily intentions. Sign up to be added to the private Facebook group. 

Meaning Thru Movement: Unlocking Your Potential 

Hoka One One has hosted multiple virtual fitness and mental health events. At 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, attend an aerobics session led by professional fitness instructors for a break from class. Read more about the series at the registration link

Campaign Trail: First Presidential Debate 

The Bonner Center for Civic Engagement is hosting a virtual watch party for the first presidential debate at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Watch via Zoom and sign up on UR's activity calendar
