Geiersbach and Tierney Awarded Media Honorable Mention by Inside Lacrosse

Redshirt junior Sam Geiersbach and first-year Arden Tierney, student-athletes on the University of Richmond women's lacrosse team, were named Media Honorable Mention All-America by 2020 Inside Lacrosse in its monthly publication in March.

Despite suffering an injury in the 2018 preseason, Geiersbach jumped back into play starting all 21 games on attack for the 2019 season. She finished second on the team with 88 points consisting of 51 goals and 37 assists. Geiersbach was selected for preseason Atlantic 10 All-Conference honors and was named to the 2020 Tewaaraton Award Watch list in February, according to Spider Athletics. In the premature 2020 season, Geiersbach tallied 45 points, 23 assists, and 22 goals.

Head lacrosse coach Allison Kwolek said Geiersbach was defined by being a significant scoring threat and feeding threat and being able to step up in high-pressure situations and score. Geiersbach scored the tying goal against a 13-12 overtime win against No. 6 UVA on Feb. 26. She finished the premature season having netted her 200th career point with 79 career assists, 218 career points and 139 goals.  

Before her first year at UR, Freshman attacker Arden Tierney was ranked  27th in her high school graduating class (2019) by Inside Lacrosse Women, according to Inside Lacrosse. Tierney’s average of 8.57 draw controls per game contributed greatly to the Spiders' ranking second nationally in draw control percentage of .67 and fifth in draw control of 18.57. 

Going into the season, Tierney said that her main goal was to do whatever the team needed to advance to the NCAA tournament. 

“After our fall season, I knew how special our team was going to be, and I wanted to help on the draw and on the offensive end to help our team reach our goal,” Tierney said. 

Tierney is a two-time A-10 Rookie of the Week and led the conference in goals with 24, ranking her second in the country among all freshmen. Following Geiersbach, Tierney accrued 34 points and averaged 4.86 points per game in the early-ending season. 

“We definitely have some unfinished business to take care of in 2021,” she said.
