Oct. 5: Win 23-20 vs. University at Albany

UR’s strong defensive performance turned into a win on Family Weekend. The Spiders are now 1-1 in Colonial Athletic Association play and moved their all-time record against the Great Danes to 7-0. Richmond redshirt sophomore quarterback Beau English won his first start by completing eight of 15 passes for 121 passing yards and one touchdown. First-year kicker Jake Larson made a 50-yard field goal to put the Spiders on the board. The field goal was the seventh longest in Richmond football history. Even though Albany scored the game’s first touchdown, the Spiders responded quickly with a 61-yard touchdown pass from English to graduate transfer wide receiver Keyston Fuller.

The Spiders went up by 13 points going into halftime, and then held Albany scoreless in the third quarter. The Great Danes tried to come back with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Albany’s onside kick was recovered by Richmond, allowing the team to run the clock down before drawing an offside call to end the game.
