Men's basketball starting guard and junior Nick Sherod tore his ACL Sunday night in the game against Hampton University and will miss the remainder of the 2018-2019 season, Richmond Athletics announced on Monday.
"I'm just heartbroken for Nick,” head coach Chris Mooney said, according to a Richmond Athletics article. “He's worked so hard since he arrived at Richmond and to see his season end like this is really difficult."
Sherod started the season as one of UR's main contributors, placing third on the team in points per game with 12.7 and second in rebounds per game with 5.2
“Replacing a veteran player with Nick's ability and experience isn't going to be easy, but this opens the door for some younger players to step up and really contribute over the remainder of the season," Mooney said, according to the Richmond Athletics article.
The Spiders will play their first full game without Sherod Wednesday night at Georgetown University. Their season record stands at 2-4.
