Spiders Sports Recap: Week of Oct. 8

Football

Oct. 13: Win 27-24 at University of Albany 

With six seconds left in the game, redshirt senior kicker Griffin Trau made a 25-yard field goal to win the game for Richmond. In his second start of the season, redshirt sophomore quarterback Joe Mancuso threw for 286 yards and ran for 50, with one interception and one running touchdown. Redshirt senior running back Gordon Collins ran for 76 yards with one touchdown. 

Women’s Golf 

Oct. 8-9: Sixth Place, Pinehurst Intercollegiate, Pinehurst, North Carolina

The Spiders finished sixth overall, with senior Annie Collom and sophomore Lizzie Reedy finishing tied for 10th with a score of 221 (+5).

Oct. 13-14: Win vs. Columbia University

With a score of 287 (-1), the Spiders set a record for the lowest score in school history. Collom broke another school record with an individual 18-hole round of 67, breaking the record set by Isabella Rusher and Elsa Diaz last season.

Cross Country

Oct. 13-14: NCAA Pre-Nationals, Madison, Wisconsin. 

The women’s team placed 22nd overall in the Cardinal 6k. Redshirt senior Amanda Corbosiero led the Spiders with a 71st-place finish. The men’s team placed 32nd overall in the Cardinal 8k. Junior Miles Clikeman led the Spiders with a 78th-place finish.

Oct. 11: Loss 1-4 at Virginia Commonwealth University

VCU scored all four goals in the first half in a Spider loss. Sophomore Cassidy Bennetti scored her first career goal for Richmond. 

Oct 13: Loss 0-2 vs. George Mason University

Two first-half goals led George Mason to a shutout win over Richmond. The Spiders’ record is now 1-14-1.

Women’s Tennis 

Oct. 12-14: ITA Atlantic Regionals, Lynchburg, Virginia. 

The team ended its fall season this weekend in Lynchburg. Junior Kiana Marshall played in the singles quarterfinals, and sophomore Emily Dunbar reached the round of 16. 

Field Hockey

Oct. 12: Loss 1-4 at LaSalle University 

The Spiders' lone goal came from sophomore Abra Granger in a conference loss.

Oct. 14: Loss 0-2 at Saint Joseph's University

Richmond was shut out by 13th-ranked Saint Joseph's. The team’s record dropped to 4-11.

Women’s Swimming

Oct. 13: Loss 123-176 vs. Bucknell and loss 122-176 vs. Boston University in Lynchburg, Pennsylvania.

The Spiders lost both of their match-ups to begin the season. A team of junior Hannah Gouger, freshman Maggie Purcell, senior Morgan Soulia and junior Eliza Manning won the 200-meter medley relay with a time of 1:47.24.
