University of Richmond Athletic Director Keith Gill resigned on Wednesday according to a recent press release. Gill has served as athletic director since 2012.

UR President Ronald A. Crutcher stated that his resignation was due to personal reasons.

“Leaving the university at this point in our progress is bittersweet, but right now my primary focus has to be with my family,” Gill said.

Crutcher expressed his thanks to Gill for the several contributions he has made to UR’s athletic department throughout his five years of service, most notably of which was increasing academic achievement among athletes.

During Gill’s tenure, the average team GPA was 3.14 (out of 4.0) and 23 athletes were named Academic All-Americans. Gill also worked to created a student-athlete study abroad program that allowed more than 140 student-athletes to study abroad.

A search for Gill’s replacement will begin immediately, Crutcher said. Deputy athletic director David Walsh will serve as interim athletic director until the position is permanently filled.
