Editorial Board: a thank you to those who fought Jonas

Nothing excites college students more than a snow day.

Except for, of course, a snow weekend, which Richmond students celebrated when Jonas dumped about 10 inches of snow on our beautiful campus, forcing the school to cancel Friday and Monday classes.

Some students took advantage of the snow by sledding down the hill in front of the library, or by playing snow football. Others used the weather as a reason to stay inside and Netflix and chill (pun intended!), watch playoff football or catch up on work.

But while we enjoyed the snow and free time, university facilities worked relentlessly to clear snow from campus. The dining hall staff ensured students would not go hungry. Campus police, as usual, kept this campus as safe as can be. Some of these people faced either dangerous commutes or stayed overnight on campus to ensure the students were safe and comfortable.

And what’s more amazing? All of these members of the Richmond community could not have been nicer as they braved the elements. “We want to keep you all safe,” one smiling facilities worker said as he tossed salt on a sidewalk.

We want to thank all of those who kept us safe this weekend and who always keep this community strong. You all are part of what makes Richmond special.
