In The Know: Peter Singer to visit Richmond, Robins School hosts Women on Wall Street

In The Know is a weekly brief that highlights events and happenings around University of Richmond.

Jepson Leadership Forum: Peter Singer

Peter Singer will be presenting a discussion on, “How to Do the Most Good,” on Thursday, November 12 from 7-8:15 p.m. in the Cannon Memorial Chapel.

Singer is a Princeton University professor and has been called the world’s most influential living philosopher, according to the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, which is sponsor the event with the Department of Philosophy. Admission is free but registration is required.

Body Love Campaign Week

The week of November 9-13 is Body Love Campaign week. Body Love Campaign week focuses on encouraging the university community to think more critically about body image and hopes to bring a culture of positivity when it comes to body image. There will be a series of speakers and events held every day this week.

Women on Wall Street

The Robins School of Business will host “Women on Wall Street,” which unites a group of women with ties to Wall Street to discuss career and personal issues they have faced in the business landscape. The event will be held Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 6-8 p.m. in the Ukrop Auditorium.

“We thought it would be useful to assemble a group of women in various niches in finance to demonstrate potential paths and to provide mentorship as well,” Nancy Bagranoff, Robins School of Business dean, said.

The event will be followed by a reception. Admission is free and the event is open to the public, although registration is required. Those interested can register here.

“Inside North Korea: Changing Society, Growing Threat”

Mike Mazarr, an employee of the RAND think tank, will present a lecture on, “Inside North Korea: Changing Society, Growing Threat,” on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 4:30 p.m. in the Whitehurst living room.

Mazarr will help demystify North Korea by exploring recent changes in the marketization of society, challenges in leadership succession, and its nuclear posture in the region. The lecture is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

Theater for Social Change Fall Tour

Every year Theater for Social Change makes a play based on prevalent issues on the Richmond campus. This year’s topic is sexual assault which is titled, “Timely Warning.” Each performance will be followed by an open dialogue. The events are free and open to the public.

November 11 at 4 p.m. in BB101 (Booker Hall Basement)
November 17 at 5 p.m. in Keller Hall Reception Room
November 19 at 5 p.m. in Tyler Haynes Commons Room 321
