In The Know is a weekly brief that highlights events and happenings around University of Richmond.
Voting shuttles & election night viewing party
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, University Transportation will be running shuttles from campus to the Westhampton Baptist Church and Tuckahoe Elementary from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and from 3-7 p.m. for voters who are registered with their campus address.
There will be an election night viewing party from 8-11 p.m. in the Westhampton Center living room. This event is hosted by the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement, and members from UR College Republicans and UR College Democrats will also be in attendance. The event is open to all students and snacks will be provided.
“The Limits of Moral BioEnhancement”
Fabrice Jotterand, associate professor of Health Care Ethics at Regis University, will be presenting a talk titled, “The Limits of Moral BioEnhancement: Why We Still Need the Virtues," on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m. in the Whitehurst Living Room. The talk will challenge philosophically implied assumptions.
“While not explicitly stated but philosophically implied, the conceptualization of morality by some proponents of moral bioenhancement requires particular epistemological commitments and neuroessentialist assumptions,” according to ppel.richmond.edu.
The talk will examine these assumptions and show why such premises can be problematic. The event is free and open to all staff, faculty and students, and refreshments will be provided.
Sneak preview movie screening of Spotlight
There will be private, pre-release screening of the movie, “Spotlight,” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. at the Regal Westhampton movie theater on Grove Avenue.
