Richmond’s swimming and diving team won the Atlantic 10 championship for the fifth year in a row this weekend in Geneva, Ohio.
The win gives the Spiders their 13th conference championship in the past 14 years.
The Spiders were led by Irina Chiulli, who won the team’s first A-10 Outstanding Female Diver award, and freshman Annie Lane, who was named the A-10 Outstanding Rookie Performer.
Richmond’s 200-yard medley relay team placed first with a time of one minute and 40 seconds. The team includes Maggie Pope, Kelley Yang, Natalya Ares and Lane.
Junior Melissa Ross also earned a gold medal, winning the 200-meter fly with a time of two minutes. Overall, the Spiders earned five gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals.
Chiulli and freshman Laura Rokop will compete in the NCAA Zones March 9-11 to try to earn spots in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
