URPD arrests ETC employee involved in recent burglary

The University of Richmond Police Department arrested a suspect involved in a burglary at ETC that occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. Thursday, according to URPD.

Police arrested Kefha Nyaanga, 20, an ETC employee who does not attend Richmond. Beth Simonds, assistant chief of police, said Nyaanga had been charged with two counts of burglary, one count of grand larceny and one count of petty larceny. He is in jail in Richmond, Simonds said.

A cash box containing $500 dollars and multiple packs of cigarettes were reported stolen at 7:23 a.m., Simonds said.

ETC Manager Josh Wroniewicz said URPD had taken surveillance tapes from ETC and the Heilman Dining Center. The police used cameras as part of the investigation, Simonds said.

ETC, which opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 12:00 a.m. Monday through Thursday, delayed opening by about 35 minutes Thursday morning, as police officers investigated the scene, Wroniewicz said.

ETC was also robbed in a separate incident sometime in the last few weeks, Simonds said.

“We were aware of an incident over there prior,” she said.
