Sammy Adams to perform at homecoming concert

Rapper Sammy Adams will return to University of Richmond for this year's homecoming concert, student organizations announced Tuesday.

"We just thought Sammy Adams was a really good fit for our campus culture," said Chloë Zung, president of Spider Board and a member of the steering committee that chose him. Spider Board is spending about $35,000 to bring him to campus, she said, not including production and promotion costs.

Spider Board, Richmond College Student Government Association and Westhampton College Government Association jointly announced the artist's identity in the Heilman Dining Center at noon. The concert will take place from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 on the Westhampton Green. Tickets are free for students, and can be reserved online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ur-homecoming-concert-tickets-13297486139. About 500 of the 1,200 available tickets had already been reserved by students as of 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to a post on the University of Richmond Facebook page.

"This is definitely our first big concert on campus in recent years," Zung said.

Sammy Adams is a Boston-based rapper who first gained fame with his remix of Asher Roth's song, "I Love College." He has since released several EPs and mixtapes, and has been featured on a song by Spanish pop singer Enrique Iglesias. 

Adams previously performed on Richmond's campus with the electronic dance band Savoy in November 2010 for a fall concert organized by the Campus Activities Board, the former name of Spider Board.
