With the MLB postseason upon us and the playoff bracket set, sports analysts have placed their bets on who they believe will be the next Kings of October, and University of Richmond's resident experts — nine players on the baseball team — have weighed in as well.
The picks range from the underdogs — outfielder Jansen Fraser's Pirates were knocked out in the play-in game for the National League Wild Card spot on Wednesday night — to the favorites. Vegas odds makers have chosen the Angels and the Dodgers (first baseman Doug Kraeger and pitcher James Lively’s pick) as co-favorites to win the World Series. Sports Illustrated and center fielder Tanner Stanley picked the Cardinals. ESPN analysts, pitcher Danny Martinson and infielder Kurtis Brown favor the Nationals.
So who has what it takes to win it all? Find out why the Richmond players chose their favorites in the graphic above, and make your own prediction before the start of the American League Division Series between the Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers at 5:30 p.m.
