Field hockey wins against Saint Francis

The University of Richmond field hockey team went ahead of Saint Francis University 4-0 in the first 15 minutes and never let the Red Flash back in to the game. Saint Francis scored at the end of the first half, and the game did not see its last goal until Amy Cook scored for the Spiders to end the game with a score of 6-1.

Richmond's six goals were distributed among six different players. "We always talk about how it's a team effort, and I think it's easier at times when things start flowing and going your way," coach Gina Lucido said.

Emma Johansson got the scoring started in the second minute when she put away Chelsea Davies' pass. Rebecca Barry, Taylor Deitrick, Kelly Quinn, Emma Pohl and Cook each scored a goal as well.

Pohl scored her first career goal in the 12th minute. "It was so exciting, I didn't know what to do," Pohl said.

The Spiders had possession for the majority of the first half. Davies, Barry and Samantha Ostoich each distributed the ball well to set up Richmond's 13 first-half scoring opportunities.

The Red Flash came into Friday's game with a record of six wins and four losses. In their first year in the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Red Flash won its first conference match against Lock Haven.

Both of last week's co-players of the week were in action at Crenshaw Field. Richmond's Barry and Saint Francis' Autumn Pellman were honored after both scored multiple goals in wins last week.

Richmond will travel to Saint Louis to play the Saint Louis Billikens on Sunday.
