IMLeagues.com will track intramural schedules and sign-ups

The Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness will begin to use the website IMLeagues.com next year to keep track of intramural sports schedules, records and statistics.

Shelby Timberlake, manager of intramural sports, said that he first learned about this website at a conference in Tampa, Fla., last year. There are currently more than 300 schools that use IMLeagues.com for their intramural sports.

"The goal for the fall is to do a lot with this website," Timberlake said. "We will have tables in the commons and the dining hall to get people to register to play."

Sophomore Joe Walsh is part of the intramural staff and is helping Timberlake to set up the website and implement it for next year's intramural sports at Richmond.

The new system requires students who participate in intramural sports to log on to the website and sign up, Walsh said. "It is not hard to do at all."

Timberlake and Walsh said they thought IMLeagues.com would make intramural sports more popular at Richmond because people could see rankings and statistics. "People will know how important a game is for making the playoffs," Walsh said.

The website will also track demographics and let users see which sports are popular for which groups on campus. "It will also help the intramural program go green," Timberlake said. "We used to have to use paper for sign-ups, roster forms and rules."

The statistics and scores of each game will be kept on an iPad that the intramural staff will use, said Timberlake. Students will also be able to view the results of the game shortly after the game is over.
