APO's 18th annual Teeter for Tots later this month

Alpha Phi Omega will hold its annual Teeter for Tots fundraiser in the University Forum and the Heilman Dining Center from Oct. 22 to 26 to support The Friends Association for Children.

APO is the community service fraternity on campus and has held Teeter for Tots for 18 years. This year, events will include an a capella concert, a dunk tank and a faculty family night in the dining hall.

Kacie Lundy, APO's chairwoman for Teeter for Tots, said she was excited about how big the event would be this year. "We will reach more of the student body and have a bigger presence on campus," she said.

According to its website, The Friends Association is a non-profit agency that has provided welfare and social services to children and families in the Richmond area since 1871. APO President Amanda Minnette said it was an honor to support them.

Both Minnette and Lundy said they looked forward to seeing the children who would be at the fundraiser. "I love having the kids from Friends come," Minnitte said. "It makes a tangible connection. When students donate, they can actually see who their money is supporting."

APO will raffle prizes for students and faculty who participate in Teeter for Tots activities during the week, including a one-night stay in the Jefferson Hotel. Students can also dunk professors and students at a tank in the Forum on Oct. 25.

"I'm most looking forward to the dunk tank this year," Lundy said. "I also like that the kids come to Teeter, so it connects the event and the people we are supporting."

In past years, Teeter for Tots was held in the Tyler Haynes Commons and lasted 24 hours. Minnette and Lundy said they hoped that the changes made this year would bring more donations and student involvement.

"We are really excited about the new plans," Minnette said. "We hope to revamp Teeter for Tots and increase the donation we make to Friends."
