Richmond alumnus killed in subway accident

A 2011 graduate of the University of Richmond, Michael Ice, was killed early Saturday morning when he was struck by a New York City subway car.

According to a New York-based news report, Ice was struck at the Spring Street Station in Greenwich Village around 6 a.m. No reason has been given as to why Ice had walked onto the tracks before getting hit.

Ice majored in business while at the university and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduating, Ice worked as a financial analyst at Merrill Lynch in New York.

According to an email sent out by the university Monday morning, students can meet with university chaplain Craig Kocher and Peter LeViness, director of counseling and psychological services at 5 p.m. today in the Jepson Faculty Lounge to "share stories, thoughts and feelings."

This story will be updated with more information and quotes when it becomes available.
