Freshman Rebecca Barry and sophomore Chelsea Davies each tallied a hat trick Saturday, and the University of Richmond field hockey team shut out Pacific University, 6-0.
The win was the team's second of the weekend and third in a row overall. The Spiders defeated Saint Louis University, 6-1, on Friday.
While Richmond had five different scorers in its game against the Billikens, only two were needed in this game.
Davies, who also had one assist, scored two of her three goals in the second half. Her last one, which came with just over seven minutes remaining, was shot from about 15 yards away from the goal off an assist from senior Katelin Peterson.
"It was all on my teammates," Davies said. "They just gave me the ball to finish it, so that was my job."
Barry also had two of her three goals come in the second half. Her final goal made the score 6-0 and was unassisted.
"It's really exciting as a coach to be able to see your players rise up to the goals you put in front of them," Richmond head coach Gina Lucido said. "We've been challenging Chelsea to really make her impact felt in the circle and being able to attack, and Rebecca, we've known she has many levels of play, and she always brings such passion, and she's really kind of finding her groove on the field."
Before the weekend, the most goals Richmond had scored this season in a game was five, coming against St. Francis University in the first game.
"We're becoming an offensive threat now, putting the ball in the cage," Davies said. "We've had opportunities in the past, but now we're actually converting them."
The Spiders defense recorded its second shutout of the season, which also came against St. Francis.
"We came out of the weekend being very excited about what the team was able to do in a very short time in recovery," Lucido said.
Next up for Richmond (8-5) is a trip to Philadelphia, to face conference-opponent Temple University on Friday.
