Communications announces school will be open tomorrow

Sun., Jan. 31, 4:00 p.m.

University Communications sent an e-mail to all students, faculty and staff to announce that the university will be open and operating on a regular business schedule for Monday, Feb. 1.

Sat., Jan. 30, 4:45 p.m.

The Greater Richmond area will remain under a winter storm warning until 1 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Meteorologists expect snow to continue this afternoon with accumulations between eight and 12 inches expected. The temperature will fall to 13 degrees Fahrenheit tonight, with snowfall expected to subside through the night.

Despite poor weather conditions locally, nearly 3,200 fans came to the Robins Center to watch the Richmond men's basketball team defeat Saint Louis Saturday afternoon. The men's basketball game followed a loss by the women's basketball team to Duquesne University. The game, originally scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. was rescheduled because of the snow.

Weather conditions also led to the postponing of a swim meet at James Madison University, where Richmond was expected to compete, and to the indoor track and field team electing not to travel to George Mason University for its own meet.

Sat., Jan. 30, 11:36 a.m.

The Greater Richmond area has already seen between two and four inches of snow Saturday morning and meteorologists expect anywhere between eight and 14 inches of snow by the end of the day.

Snowfall is expected to diminish by midnight, with the heaviest period of snowfall between Saturday morning and mid-afternoon.

Fri., Jan. 29@4:30 p.m.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service calls for anywhere between six and 14 inches of snow fall in the Greater Richmond area.

Snow is expected to accumulate in Richmond during the mid- to late-evening on Friday. Meteorologists expect the heaviest of the snowfall to occur on Saturday.
