Behind the syllabus: Barry Lawson

What do you do during the weekends?

Play frisbee with Lilly (my chocolate lab) and play the mandolin. If it's a nice weekend and I'm not working, I like to go to the Blue Ridge Mountains to hike.

What's the craziest thing you did when you were in college?

Baseball road games...especially when we went to Florida to play for spring training. Perhaps [it is] best not to provide details, though. On another note, in an IM flag football game, I once tore a guy's pants off reaching for the flag. He was wearing break-away pants, and, fortunately, not going commando.

What's one thing your students would never guess about you?

I was one of the two chubbiest kids in Little League. Seriously. The coaches were glad they didn't have to feed me on a regular basis: Big Mac, Chicken McNuggets, large fries, large drink and apple pie all in one setting. At age 12, I was into quantity, not quality.
