Members of the the University of Richmond's DEX business fraternity and the Western Henrico Rotary Club sponsored a campus tour and trip to a men's basketball game on Sunday for children in the community identified by the Tuckahoe YMCA as underprivileged.
The YMCA matches the children with organizations, such as the Rotarians, who spend time with the children. About 30 Rotarians and their family members, a dozen Rotoaract/DEX members and 25 students involved with the high school version of Rotary participated in the event.
Each child was paired with a Richmond student or one of the high school students from Hermitage High School for the day. Men's basketball coach Chris Mooney and the athletics department provided free tickets for the event's participants.
"This is a great example of several groups working together to provide a fun experience for these kids as well as giving them a taste of what college life is like," said Scott Strickler, past president of the Western Henrico Rotary Club and immediate past chairman of the Tuckahoe YMCA.
