Howson appointed interim director of Modlin Center

David Howson, associate director of the Modlin Center for the Arts, has confirmed that he will serve as interim executive director of the Modlin Center for the 2009-10 season

The confirmation, made Tuesday, comes while the university continues its nationwide search for a replacement for Kathy Panoff, who is leaving for the University of Texas at Austin after 13 years at Richmond.

Howson and Panoff have been working together to expand the influence of the Modlin Center in the Richmond area arts community. One program Howson and Panoff created gave free, VIP tickets to students so they could attend concerts at The National venue downtown.

"This is a great opportunity to maintain the momentum that Kathy Panoff has created, while, at the same time, prepare the Modlin Center for new leadership," Howson said. "I am proud to continue our commitment of engaging both the UR and metropolitan Richmond communities in the arts."

Panoff had been the Modlin Center director since its inception in 1995. During that time, the Modlin Center has achieved national recognition and hosted many high-profile people, from former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to comedian Garrison Keilor, both during the past year.
