Q: What position do you play on the basketball team and how long have you been playing?
A: I am the forward/center and I have been playing for 5 years.
Q: What kind of music gets you pumped up for a basketball game?
A: I usually listen to Lil' Wayne: "Best Rapper Alive" and "Sky Is The Limit." I also listen to T.I.: "Tell 'Em I Said That" and "What You Know." Other artists I listen to before games are Jay-Z and Juelz Santana.
Q: What kind of music do you enjoy listening to both on and off the court?
A: I listen to a lot of Gospel and Christian music off the court. I also really like Lupe Fiasco and have been listening to him a lot lately.
Q: Does the basketball team have a playlist that it plays before games or during practice?
A: We don't have a specific playlist that we listen to before games. Everybody usually just listens to their own stuff in the locker room. In pre-game warmups, we listen to the approved assortment of music that the market department puts on. We usually don't get too much say for that music.
Q: Do you and your teammates generally enjoy listening to the same types of music or do preferences clash?
A: In general we listen to the same genre of music, but there have been clashes in the past. Sometimes people will try and slip some crazy, hard-core rock in there or some misplaced country. But if the mood is right, we'll listen to almost anything. The clashes only occur when someone tries to dictate the mood in an unnatural way.
Q: Are there any artists that have particularly influenced you?
A: Actually, Hillsong is a group that influences me a lot. One of my favorite songs by them is "Hosanna" and I listen to that right before I come out of the locker room. After listening to all the music that gets me hyped, "Hosanna" helps calm me down a bit so I don't get too overhyped and also so I don't forget that I am playing to glorify God's name.
Q: Are there any artists you listen to that you do not think other people would know about?
A: I listen to a Christian rap artist named Trip Lee, and he is really good. I'm not sure if many people know about him, but he makes good music. I actually played one of his songs for my teammates recently, and they were definitely feeling it. I also listen to Canton Jones, which is another Christian artist that more people may know about. He raps and sings and is a very talented artist.
