This week's RCSGA meeting convened with guest speaker Elyse Kenealy explaining an important program offered by an organization called "Camp Kesem." The children who attend the camp have parents who currently suffer or have suffered from cancer.
The program is offered to the families free of charge, and Kenealy is hoping to get financial support from RCSGA to help send at least one student from the university to a learning seminar in California that will train to work at the camp.
In terms of Homecoming, senate members announced that all the decorations for Homecoming week had been ordered, including banners to hang in the Tyler Haynes Commons as well as prizes that will be given out during the week. Starting next week, students will be able to sign a banner for the football team, buy tickets for the formal dance and vote for the king and queen.
The student advocacy committee continues to gain undergraduate representation among meetings with the Board of Trustees and the president's cabinet. Students hope to be allowed to work closely with board members and offer a real voice of the student body.
Various RCSGA members are looking into passing an environmental resolution, which is currently being redrafted. It will address environmental sustainability on campus and examine how attaining environmental sustainability will financially affect the university. The proposal advocates proper spending of money for these issues and make sure that what is being spent to help the campus is efficient and worth the cost.
The senior class chair announced the final plans for the coming Halloween social for seniors. On Oct. 29, there will be a celebration honoring the 10th anniversary of the Whitehurst building; the junior class chair declared that progress is still being made in terms of organizing games for the evening, ordering food, etc. Sophomore class chair confirmed plans for the coming Rock Band Concert that will be held next Thursday. Freshman men who are interested in filling out an application for the freshman class cabinet can anticipate an e-mail that will further explain the application process.
