Excitement for the rivalry game between Richmond and VCU escalated throughout the week before culminating in Thursday’s overtime win for the Spiders.
After coming back from a 7-point deficit with under a minute to play, Richmond dominated in overtime to defeat 19th-ranked VCU, 86-74, in the Robins Center.
Richmond’s Darien Brothers hit a big 3-pointer to send the game to overtime, and the Spiders finished with the upset, beating rival No. 19 VCU, 86-74.
Richmond held the lead the whole half, but was never able to really break away from rival VCU. Still, the Spiders hold the small lead, 32-29, over the Rams.
