University of Richmond starting quarterback Michael Strauss suffered an injury on his throwing shoulder during practice Tuesday, per Richmond Athletics. He did not return to practice, and his return to spring practice is questionable.

Strauss said the injury was not serious and the team was taking precautionary measures.

“If we had a game Saturday I would be playing,” he said.

Strauss, a rising senior, set school records in completions, yards and touchdowns last season. Richmond finished the season 6-6, and ended the season on a four-game winning streak.

University of Virginia transfer Michael Rocco, who is the nephew of head coach Danny Rocco, will be eligible this season after redshirting in 2013. He started eight games for the Cavaliers in 2012.

Strauss expects to play in the Spring Game April 19, he said.

“That’s definitely the plan,” he said. “The only way I don’t is if Coach Rocco wants to hold me out to be safe and/or my arm doesn’t feel better.”
