Richmond upset in first round of NCAA Tournament

No. 7 University of Richmond was upset by No. 10 Saint Mary’s College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game was tied at the half, but the Spiders struggled in the second half.

Abby Oliver and Brittani Shells each scored 18 points as Richmond defeated Delaware 67-49 in the first round of the 2010 WNIT. The Spiders shot over 50 percent shooting for the game.

The Collegian is posting updates from online sports editor Andrew Prezioso, who is in Providence, R.I., for the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Richmond, the No. 7 seed in the South Region, will be competing in the tournament for the first time since 2004 and will No. 10 St. Mary’s College in the first round.
